What Medical Tests for Canada Student Visa Are Required?

Regarding pursuing higher studies abroad, Canada is one of the most highly demanded countries, thanks to the high quality of education offered, affordable cost of living, and peaceful life that students can lead here. If you are planning to study in this country, you may be thinking about choosing the right course, finding a good university, and going through the immigration process. There’s a lot more that you have to consider.

In the process of getting a visa, undergoing a medical test is a vital part. Irrespective of whether you are applying for a student visa, work permit, or Canada Express PR, a medical test is mandatory if you are planning to stay in the country for more than six months. Your immigration to this country depends on your good health as per law. Here’s a quick look at the medical tests required for a student visa and all other required details related to these medical tests.

Required Medical Tests

The medical test requirement for a Canada study visa is done in four parts:

  1. Weight & height check, eye checkup
  2. Urine test, blood test
  3. X-ray test
  4. Measurement of blood pressure and complete body checkup

Here are a few other points related to the medical examination that is done:

  • The physician may also check your lungs, heart, and other important organs to see if there are any problems with the vital systems.
  • Blood tests are done to see if you are suffering from major illnesses such as HIV, syphilis, or active TB.
  • Urine samples are checked to identify any possible health abnormalities. This test also helps in detecting drug abuse instances.
  • In most cases, the physician will not check your genitals or rectal area. However, they may do a breast examination.
  • You might be asked whether you want to get a COVID-19 vaccine approved by the Government of Canada. However, it is not mandatory.
  • You should be vaccinated against diseases such as measles, mumps, polio, rubella, diphtheria toxoids, tetanus, rotavirus, pertussis, hepatitis A, and influenza type B.

These are the common tests that are performed. A medical examination is just a basic protocol followed for your student immigration visa. You don’t have to get nervous about it.

Where Can You Get Your Medical Tests Done?

You can get your medical test done at any immigration medical test center in India or any other country. There are visa medical test centers that usually offer a eMedical test system. You can get a list of these centers by visiting the Canadian government’s official immigration website.

Who Can Conduct The Medical Tests?

A very important prerequisite is that the physician doing your physical test for the student visa medical examination should be a panel physician. This means that they should be listed as an IRCC-authorized designated panel physician. Such a physician will examine you at an immigration medical test center and give you a medical certificate. The other physicians are not eligible to perform these medical tests.

What Do You Need to Carry on the Day of Your Medical Examination?

You need to carry along a few things on the day your medical examination is scheduled to happen. These include:

  • Carry along an identity proof document issued by the government with your signature and photograph, such as your aadhaar card or passport.
  • If you wear contact lenses or eyeglasses, take them along.
  • Take a list of all your medications.
  • Get your medical records or test results related to your past or present medical conditions.
  • Take four recent photographs. These may be needed if the doctor doesn’t use the eMedical report.
  • Take a copy of the IMM 1017E Medical Report form if you don’t have an upfront health checkup.

When Should You Undergo Your Medical Test?

It would help if you got your medical test for a student visa done before applying for the visa. While applying, you need to attach the medical test certificate as well. If you have scheduled an upfront medical test, you should contact the designated doctor directly at the medical test center. In such a case, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will send you the medical form.

Instructions are given to ensure that the medical test is conducted within a month of getting the guidelines from the governing authorities if you have your test after applying. The results of the medical tests are valid for a year. If your study course extends for over a year, you might have to get the tests done again after a year.

The cost of a medical examination for a student visa may cost anywhere from INR 5000 to INR 10000. In case your visa application gets denied after the test, your money will not be refunded.

Hope you have now got an idea of the medical requirement for a Canada study visa and all the other required information related to the same.
